Janeth Jepkoskei Busienei

Janeth Jepkoskei Busienei, a middle-distance runner, won the 800m silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She had emerged from obscurity in 2006 to win the 800m gold at the Commonwealth Games before going on to win the African championships over the same distance.

Busienei was named Kenyan Sportswoman of the Year in 2006 and 2007. In 2007, she became the first Kenyan female runner to win gold in the 800m race in Osaka, Japan, breaking the Kenyan record and setting the world leading time. The feat earned her the nickname ‘Eldoret Express’.  In November 2016, Jepkosgei won the Pan African Humanitarian Award on SPort and Charity.

In 2008 and 2009, she got silver medals in the 800m race at the Beijing Olympics and World Championships in Berlin.

Born on 13 December 1983 in Kapsabet, Busienei is the daughter of Michael Busienei, who was also an 800m runner.
